Challenges for Fractional CFOs

cfo-kn-image-3

Summary

The notion of working as a fractional CFO is appealing. The benefits are obvious and the thought of achieving full utilization doesn’t seem all that difficult. That is, of course, until you try to replace clients who have outgrown your capacity, gone out of business or hired a more cost-effective resource. The reality is that for many, the challenges of maintaining a livelihood as a fractional CFO turn out to be far greater than those that existed in the corporate world that these people happily left behind.

At this session, we assembled a group of financial executives who are serving as fractional CFOs. Issues they addressed included:

  • Improving operational efficiency
  • Growing revenue from existing clients
  • Ideas for business development
  • Balancing execution with business development
  • Pricing strategies
  • Leveraging flexible resources
  • Useful tech tools
  • Start-up/mid-market ecosystem in CT

Those in attendance benefited from a collective brainstorm on best practices for tackling these pressing challenges. Further, through the process of meeting and forging relationships with their peers, they developed potential alternative sources of deal flow.
