According to the LinkedIn 2015 Global Recruiting Trends – 4th Annual Report, one of the biggest obstacles to landing talent in 2015 is competition. As we continue the trend towards a “sellers” employment market, hiring managers may need to become more willing to consider candidates who change jobs frequently. A recent article on www.recruitingtrends.com, published some interesting statistics that appear to suggest the stigma associated with multiple job changes may be waning. Particularly among millennials, the majority of professionals feel changing jobs every few years is a benefit to their careers.
This is not to suggest that hiring managers need to settle. Rather, they should simply not rule out candidates based on what they consider to be too many job changes. Hiring managers should probe candidates to understand the drivers behind each move while also considering that we are in the midst of a generational shift in attitudes towards career mobility. Doing otherwise may limit an employer’s ability to secure talent in an increasingly competitive environment.
